My friends and we are considering home birth. Its very common for fathers to completely dismiss home birth b/c of the common misconception that its dangerous. In fact, in the US, home birth (as an institution) is considered much safer than hospital birth. Our infant and maternal mortality rate has not improved since 1982 where it has doubled and is substantially higher than most other developed countries. Most who are familiar with the childbirth in the US, believe this to be b/c of our lack of attending midwives. Of course, home birth is not for everyone and not everyone is a good candidate, but if you would would like the numbers in a digestible manner; watch "Business of Being Born" on netflix. (There's also a follow up docuseries with much more specific information: "More Business of Being Born") and if you're considering it, this is a good book.
