You know what’s badass? Icebergs. They took down the “unsinkable” Titanic in under three hours, they’re changing the temperature of the entire freaking ocean (please note that’s 70% of the planet) and causing national disasters left and right…when they’re not holding up dancing polar bears sipping on Coca-Colas. But you know what else makes these floating pieces of ice awesome? The fact that you can buy blue beer made out of them. That’s right, the Japanese have figured out how to combine melted iceberg water and seaweed to make a pretty good tasting beer (of course they would). Abashiri, the makers of the Okohtsk Blue Draft Beer, first collect water from icebergs that float on to the beaches of a town called Hokkaido near the Sea of Okhotsk (an area in the Pacific between Russia and Japan). They then brew that water with blue seaweed to get an aquamarine blue beer that has a clear white head with a very light flavor, not much of malt, no hops and is slightly fruity. People have described it as highly drinkable and refreshing but what else would you expect from a beer made out of nature’s icebox? So crack a blue one open and have a taste before global warming gets to them first.
