This tech has a long way to go before something like this is a reality. Only the poly parts are able to be fabbed at present. All the metal an hardened pieces still need to be manufactured using current tech. This doesn't mean weapons can't be printed, but they'll be smaller hand held single or double shot weapons, not rifles.

How can 3d printing of parts that are already plastic/polymer be terrifying? This is just another lame documentary made to instill fear in the vast majority of people who lack simple knowledge and common sense.

I agree with the other comments.

1. This is nothing new. Some pieces of a rifle are plastic, other pieces are metal. You cannot "print" metal. This is just another way to (expensively) mold plastic.

2. This is not "scary" and labeling it so is ridiculous. Is it "scary" that a welder from Home Depot can be used to build a sword? What's so scary about molded plastic?

"I'm so glad I have such great access to 3D printers..." said no one ever. All I can say is that tech can't be cheap, so parts made that way would be very expensive. I don't know how many mentally disturbed rich people are gonna create an arsenal to attack people like that for evil purposes (oh wait, I forgot about politicians...)

Ah, fear mongering at it's finest. I read somewhere that Jay Leno has a 3-D printer for car parts for his classic cars, so if he can afford one obviously we all can too!
