So eliminating all guns will in your opinion will solve the problem of inner city violence? Is that like the constitutional amendment prohibiting alcohol thus ending alcoholism, public drunkenness…oh and crime related to alcohol? How’d that work out?

Looks like a black-on-black, gang related problem, no? They'd get guns anyway, just like they get banned drugs. Chicago already has some of the strictest gun control around... and crime went up as good folks were disarmed. Take a cue from Texas: more concealed carry permits, less crime.

ew_grover - I don't think the elimination of guns was mentioned anywhere. This is not a prescription, just a distillation of the facts.

marcus13 - The statistics I found didn't speak to the aggressors, only the victims. I was actually surprised that the vast majority of victims are actually in their 20's and 30's. I always thought that gang violence was most prevalent in the teen years.

I personally believe that gun laws generally aren't effective. Both inner-city violence and mass shootings such as the Sandy Hook tragedy are often committed using registered guns that have been stolen, sold, or otherwise misappropriated. Universal background checks and more training might be effective, but I agree that a ban won't solve the gun violence problems.

Again, I'm not projecting a solution, just trying to get a clearer view of the problem.

I've heard ideas about strict punishment for the gun owner if their gun is used in a crime. It would certainly make registered gun owners take extra care to keep their guns locked away. As you mentioned, the guns in the Sandy Hook shooting were legally registered, we just need to keep them in the hands of those who are sane.
