I do not own a 1911 (wishlist) so someone correct me if I'm wrong: Wouldn't you want the retaining strap to come up over the back of the hammer? This would do two things; It would prevent the strap from getting in the way of your hands when going to draw the weapon, and it would ensure a safer carry especially if you carry with a round chambered.
I know people do it, but you should never walk around with a chambered weapon unless you are in combat. Just not a good idea.
This is actually the holster I wear. The snaps break away rather easily and I can draw rather quickly. The retention strap on this can actually be completely removed if you like that feel better. I dig 1911's and only make holsters for them. They are for a number of reasons one of the most iconic American firearms.

It's a nice looking holster definitely.
Anyhow, I most certainly carry chambered. For those that carry a revolver its a given. But even when I carry my Spgfd I chamber one.
