There are some great tools at Harbor Freight… if you know where to look! To help Harbor Freight shoppers get the most for the money we assembled this HUMONGOUS list of those Chinese gems and stinkers from the tool store we all love to hate! To find these tools I looked in forums where metal workers, woodworkers, farmers, gardeners and mechanics discussed the quality of items that they’ve bought from Harbor Freight. I read well over 1000 individual forum posts to harvest out the good enough, the bad and the abysmal tools and materials from Harbor Freight.

Great article!

I'm sometimes tempted to shop at HF. Then I remember the Craftsman tools I've had since I was 20 and think, nah....

I still have Craftsman tools that my father passed down to me. I used some of them when I was a teenager and I turned 48 this year.

I buy Craftsman hand tools, but I've had too many problems with machine tools from them. My table saw and wood lathe both broke fairly quickly.

Better hang on to those Craftsman tools. I went to Sears this weekend to buy some wrenches for my motorcycle tool kit --- NOTHING there except Chinese.

I've had really good results with my HVLP spray gun from HF, #69705 I believe. Also, the oscillating multi tool I got there has been a lifesaver on several projects. On most other things, I've felt as though the quality matched the price point, or worse, and I'm generally happiest with the tools I did NOT purchase from there.
