Well, I disagree with the eye-contact from a distance. As a tall man with a lazy-eye, I'm as likely to punch you in the gut as find your hand if I'm not looking for it. After hand contact, eye contact for sure.
And I admit it, as far as subconscious judging goes, a weak shake from a man or a woman sets the first impression off on the wrong foot.
