This is actually pretty stupid, the author uses oil-sticks or and gives other options but the point is that it's as far from the boyscout's method he touts as it can be. Of course you can start an upside down fire with oil-sticks/etc. it's nothing unlike trowing a road flare on top of a pile of wood.
@High_Binder With an upside down fire you can use whatever you want on the top to get it going. I have started many of these and the reality is.......the fire burns longer and hotter. There's an old saying, "Don't knock it till you try it".
